Discover more about the ancient history of Istanbul with a trip to the Archaeology Museum, found in the grounds of the extremely famous Topkapi Palace.

Enter the most scenic of establishments to be greeted by the beaming statue of Bes, a Cypriot demigod that is known for its endless supply of strength and power.

With an impressive 20 galleries in all, covering over 5,000 years of Turkish history, the archaeology museum shows its guests a variety of different and interesting artefacts, all gathered from around the country, as well as the Near East.

One of the main wonders found here has to be the sarcophagi of a royal necropolis, a collection which are dated from the sixth to the fourth century. The best preserved of these shows what seem to be scenes of the Macedonian general’s triumph in Issus in 333BC along its side panels, a truly awe inspiring site.
