Take a trip over to see the Hagia Sophia whilst on your Istanbul city break; filled with history, the once was church turned mosque is now a museum open to the public, so be sure to take a wander and learn all about the area’s past.

Although nothing of the original building exists anymore, after having been destroyed in an earthquake in 558, the Hagia Sophia is an amazing piece of architecture that you just have to see.

Constructed in just five years, you’ll be astonished to discover all that the Hagia Sophia has to offer its guests, from its beauty to its history, both of which you can find out more about on your visit. With a dome that stands up to an impressive 56m high, the building was the largest church ever to be built for over 1000 years.

So take a stroll through this museum and learn all about the Ottoman conquest, which resulted in this ancient church being converted into a mosque so long ago.
