It can be difficult to visit places of historical and momentous importance when on holiday, as without much background knowledge of the country, it can be hard to understand the relevance and importance of what you are seeing.

However, the Sultan Ahmet Mosque is an amazing place to go and see, leaving all who do so in a state of awe and wonder, no matter what their cultural background or knowledge of the area.

Also known as the Blue Mosque due to the thousands of blue tiles decorating the interior, this is one of the most famous places of Muslim worship throughout both Turkey and Islam.

With more than 260 windows flooding the main chamber alone with light, the Sultan Ahmet Mosque is an architectural work of art, boasting six minarets and eight domes. Incorporating Byzantine church building methods into traditional Islamic construction, this place of worship is thought of as the last of the great mosques to come out of the classical period.
